HOW A POOL TILE BUILD WORKS
Every complete pool tiling project we do in Sydney covers all 5 layers. Understanding each one helps you ask the right questions and spot the shortcuts other tilers take.
The substrate is cleaned, levelled, and checked for structural integrity. All pipe penetrations are sealed and the surface is primed for waterproofing.
Glass mosaic, ceramic mosaic, or pebble interior installed to the full underwater surface. Your choice of palette, colour blend, and pattern.
The visible band of tile at water level. Often a contrasting colour or material — glass, ceramic, or a decorative feature tile — that defines the pool aesthetically.
The top edge of the pool wall, capped with travertine, granite, bullnose porcelain, or natural stone. The coping provides a clean finish and a comfortable edge to sit on.
Slip-rated porcelain, travertine, or natural stone paving installed around the pool perimeter. All materials are rated for UV, chlorine splash, and wet-area safety.
MATERIALS
Pool tiles carry demands that bathroom or floor tiles never face: full water immersion, constant UV exposure, chlorine and salt-chlorinator chemistry, and the need for a rated slip coefficient on any surface people walk on.
All materials we specify for Sydney pool projects are rated for UV intensity, chlorine or salt exposure, and wet-area safety. We do not use residential floor tiles in pool environments.

HOW IT WORKS
From the first phone call to water in the pool, here is exactly how a project with S & T Tiling Renovations runs.
Sam inspects the pool or building site in person, takes measurements, and discusses your tile and material preferences. You receive a detailed fixed-price quote with no hidden costs.
For new builds, the concrete shell is prepared and all penetrations are sealed. Waterproofing membrane is applied and fully cured before any tiles are laid.
The underwater interior surface is tiled using your chosen glass mosaic, ceramic mosaic, or pebble finish. Adhesive and grout are selected specifically for permanent water immersion.
The waterline tile band is installed at the correct height, followed by the pool coping stones. Expansion joints are set to allow for movement without cracking.
Slip-rated tiles or stone are laid across the surrounding deck. Drainage falls are checked and the overall pool-to-surround finish is aligned and consistent.
The pool is cleaned down, inspected, and water-filled. Sam walks you through the completed work and provides any care instructions. Your pool is ready to swim.
